    Pros
    Updates automatically.
    Cons
If you have a problem and are not an expert be aware that the customer service is terrible. I’ve been dealing with a problem for 8 days–an unconscionably long time for an antivirus program–and the problem isn’t solved yet. Contact is only through email and they answer you only once a day–once, I waited 3 days. Each response I got was unclear, and I now know, incomplete. If you know what you’re doing, I suppose the product is good, but be aware that if like me you don’t and you have a problem you could be trying to fix it for a very long time. I don’t expect resolution for another 3 or 4 days if I don’t cancel my subscription and just go back to Norton first. Incidentally, the user forum didn’t help either.

    Pros
Good looking. Complete suite of products
    Cons
Slow – nothing but problems since I installed it. Poor email filtering. An awful program. Truly guys. People actually need to use their computers to so stuff, they’re not platforms to run anti-virus software! Deinstalling it & tearing up the money.
    Summary
Avast user of resources. Slow Slow Slow Slow Slow.

    Interfering interface – but pretty.

Slow Slow Slow. My dual core computer uses a huge percentage of its resources just running avast – particularly at start-up.

The email filtering is particularly poor with all kinds of obvious span getting through even after identifying it to avast and blacklisting the source.

Avast plays music at you! It talks to you! Always trying to tell you how clever it is. Even when you try to tone down its self promotion, it interferes.

Avast needs to sit in the background, do its job well, use as few resources as possible and let me get on with earning money with my computer while protecting me from threats.

I don’t want to know how clever avast is all the time – particularly when it isn’t.

    Pros
I want to talk with a human.
    Cons
I am NOT happy about having to sign up with CNET just to talk with AVAST (which I pay for).

    Pros
None to date, as it does not seem to do more than my previous versions which worked perfectly.
    Cons
This new version has been full of problems, the main ones being:-
The use of iYogi by avast.
    Major slowdown of speed.
Denial of access to some of my previously safe business partners’ sites.
Slowdown of my Outlook, Junking my safe contacts and refusing my “Safe” tags.
Complete freeze of my Real Player and cannot view messages sent including Real PLayer.
Constantly harrased by iYogi to log into my account which should have been cancelled by avast and refunded.
    Summary
Service from avast is very poor, no solutions, almost as though they are fishing in the dark. Refunds promised, never received even though this promise made by CEO. Involvement of iYogi is to my mind and in my sole opinion, from my experience an extremely ill advised move.

    Pros
I really liked the sandbox feature and the friends feature for auto connection with my software. It is user friendly and the user can set their own level of connection with commonly used software. Most protection features are easy to understand as well.
    Cons
The firewall can be overly sensitive. For example, when I turned off my wireless connection the firewall completely turned off my internet connection. My opinion of their customer service is “Aweful”. Avast has hired a company in India to do their CS and they try to get you to buy their tech services for a yearly fee. The CS agent did not address the issue that I had originally called about. I think that once the Avast software has been purchased there should be at least minimal assistance without purchasing a yearly plan.
    Summary
I really liked the protection levels and software features until a problem arose. I will not be renewing my service with them and will be going back to AVG.

    Pros
There is nothing to recommend this product.
    Cons
I purchased a one year subscription for Avast on Oct. 25th 2011 for $39.95 (now priced at $29.95 on their website today) and keep getting notices that my subscription has lapsed and must pay again! There is no one to call, no email address for customer support and I’m thoroughly disgusted. I want a refund!

Strengths: Avast doesn’t take up excessive cpu cycles and does a good job of protection. AVG brought my machine to a crawl. It’s free.
Weaknesses: You have to build your own suite of products to get efficient, good, usable protection. Or maybe that’s a strength
    Overall: Works well for me

I purchased Avast! Internet Security through Element 5 of Digital River. I am sorry not to have purchased it through Amazon because I am certain I would have been able to receive a refund! I purchased the 2-year subscription service thinking I was getting a good deal. However, it is not a good deal when you find that you do not like the product. I called Element 5 for a refund (that would have been well within the time if I had simply gotten a trial version). Avast! through Element 5 would not refund my money. Do not purchase through these companies unless you are certain that you like the product! I will not deal with Avast! again!!!

    Pros
Used to be a good program have used for several years, but now awful.
    Upgrade great adn frequently
    Technical Support SUCKS
    Cons
Poor technical support-3 tickets sent no response and prolemnot fixed. I am ending my 2yr contract based on this and demanding a refund. They have left my computer and my information vulnerable and have done nothing to fix. They take payment then leave you vulnerable. I will never use them again and I will do everything to prevent anyone for signing up and going through what I have had to experience.
    Summary
The product itself worked well initially, but when you have a problem the company support is non-existent!

    Pros
Once you get it going it is pretty good. BUT if I had known what it would cost me I would have just kept the free one. That is what I get for feeling guilty about a free year.
    Cons
I signed up on line on 1/1/2011 & it took 10+ calls to iYogi, the install program people.iYogi poor poor compny. I was on the phone 4 hrs & still not get it installed. They jacked my Windws Progrm. I was down 4 wks had to hire private IT guy to fix.
    Summary
I would not recommend the Avast program that you pay for. I had to end up hiring a local IT person to come in and it took him 2 visits to get my computer back to working condition after iYogi (the install people Avast hires) got done with me. My IT guy finally got Avast going but I will have to think long and hard about paying them another years subscription. I will go back to the free Avast. I complained to Avast about what happened to me but they just blew me off, saying they don’t have anything to do with the install people. What a crock. Avast hires these jokers that you can hardly understand and that do not have a clue as to what they are doing. The iYogi guy wanted to sell me his service and I swear he screwed my computer up because I would not sign up with them. Avast just turn their back on you, saying they have nothing to do with the install and the install people just say too bad. I am still disappointed about the whole thing.

    Pros
    It has a free version.
Didn’t take over my computer like the big “N”.
Has a great price on full version.
I had no trouble with viruses.
    Cons
Don’t know of any, but I use my computer less frequently than most users.
    Summary
I would buy the full version at the sale price of $25 if I could find a way of paying for it online. I don’t use a credit card.I’d like to try the full version to see how it reacts with my system

    Pros
    Does it’s job well.
    Cons
This is now like Norton, at first Norton was great. I was with them since 1990. They got REAL slow. Now yours is just too darn slow.
    Summary
I am 64 years old and have seen a few companies that improved their product so much that went out of business. I’m wondering if it’s just the paid version that sucks? The free one is why I got the paid this one, my mistake.

    Pros
Easy to install, easy to use. Does not seem to slow Win 7 or XP systems down noticeably. Background updates. Webpage advisor.
    Cons
    Missed a virus recently.
    Summary
I liked this with its features and ease of use until recently (about 1 year after we began using it), it caught some viruses. It couldn’t “fix” the files, but it did “remove” them. After the removal, it said it needed to reboot and do a boot scan. It never fully recovered from that as the virus apparently took over all permissions for executables, rendering the laptop virtually useless. Fortunately, I have a neighbor who was able to get it up and going again – after 2 days of working on it.
Needless to say, my euphoria for Avast has faded quickly after this experience. Can I be sure that another brand would have fared better? No, but I do know for a fact that Avast didn’t perform in this case.

    Pros
light on resources compared to others.Decent detection rate.Fast scanning speed
    Cons
slightly low detection rate compared to kaspersky or bitdefender.Firewall is good but not great.
    Summary
Avast internet security 6 is a decent overall suite. It is a good package for home users looking for decent protection. But the detection and cleaning capabilities need slight improvement. The firewall too needs to be souped up.The webrep and virtual browsing features are an inovative approach by avast.Still:if the core malware detection is improved:this would become a perfect security suite

    Pros
    -Very good detection rates.
    -Very light on system resources.
-User Friendly – Doesn’t burden me with tons of unnecessary pop-ups.
-Decent Disinfection capabilities. Sometimes it left executable files behind.
-Download checking: Caught almost all the viruses the moment they were downloaded.. 1 or 2 it caught using proactive methods.
-Very customizable; Good detail when reporting.
-Self Protection; I could not shut down the Anti-Virus or the Firewall components.
-The Anti-Spam component is good, but not great.
    -The Virtualization Feature works good.
    -Not very many false positives.
-User-Friendly Firewall; very quiet and doesn’t bother me.
-Safezone provided a little peace-of-mind as things could not penetrate its security.
-Web Reputation was fairly accurate, but I still see a-lot of grey ratings.
-Web-Site blocking allowed me to define a custom black-list; Wish it had more comprehensive parental controls.. but still good.
    Cons
-The Firewall component is very leaky. Even in Public Zone Mode, it allows hackers to see my NETBIOS Name and my Media Access Control (MAC) Address. (This is very bad.)
-It didn’t always remove the malware.. sometimes It would leave enough traces behind to where another avast scan would report malware.. when there was no malware.
-The Behavior Shield doesn’t seem to be doing anything.. Auto-Decide mode really just seems to be another “Allow All” button.
-By Default, the program is not in it’s most optimal settings, in ex. (PUP detection is disabled by default.)
-Sometimes when upgrading the license from free – Internet security.. will not register it’s firewall component in Windows Security Center.
-Sandbox still has quite a few bugs. Some malware escaped being Sandboxed.
-Applications can-not peek into Safezone, but a computer can be hacked using safe zone. All you need to do is crack the Chromium-based browser code.
    Summary
The Anti-Malware Component, the Anti-Spam Component, and the Web-Reputation Features are the best things about avast! Internet Security. The Firewall though proved to be good at stopping hack-attacks.. but it doesn’t do a good job of protecting my privacy. When I did seperate firewall benchmarks between Avast! Firewall and (for testing purposes) Online Armor Firewall.. avast! Revealed my NetBios data to hackers, my MAC Address, and even revealed my Internal IP Address.

I worry about this because if a hacker can see my MAC Address, then it means that avast’s firewall is not protecting my critical hardware infrastructure from attack and that means that there is still a way to bypass it.

A MAC Address is a unique 48 digit number/letter code (a-f, and #’s) that identify the hardware I use to connect to the internet. If a hacker can see this, there’s still too many holes.

Online Armor However did not let even a shred of my private information get picked up by any third parties. All my Windows Networking Data, my NetBIOS data, and my MAC Address.. were completely hidden from hackers. The Anti-Virus that came with it though was inadequate.. but the firewall component beats avast!’s easily.

One more concern: I was able to stop the netBIOS leak by disabling it under my TCP/IP settings in my connection.. but all that does is instructs port 139 to close. A firewall should be default protect that data from being seen.

That is my summary: There are some serious problems with the Firewall component that the avast! developers really need to fix before a way to exploit the hardware bug is found.

    Pros
I WILL NEVER, NEVER BUY ANYTHING FROM THIS COMPANY AGAIN.

NONE to make up for allowing a virus to attack my computer & then refusing to fix my computer unless I PAY them (even as a paid customer). They said my computer being attacked by a virus wasn’t their product’s fault b/c computers can be attacked for more reasons than a poor antivirus. I have NEVER had an antivirus co. say this or dealt w/ one that acted this way before.

BEWARE: I got the destructive virus from opening a news link on Twitter.
    Cons
    HORRIBLE Customer service:

    1. They allowed a virus to disable their product & my firewall & then my entire computer

    2. They don’t care if they lose your business & refuse to fix the virus damage for free – what’s the point of buying an anti-virus to be treated this way?

    3. Rude (especially the supervisor), heavily accented reps who are way too hard to understand & had to ask them repeat themselves several times. One couldn’t even pronounce “viruses.” They are nice to you if you PAY for technical support to fix the virus that their product failed to protect you from.
    Summary
I bought this product based on reviews here and I’ve learned the hard way that this is not a reliable site for that. When I buy on Amazon & other sites, the reviews include customer service & the reviews match my satisfaction w/ my product. I have never been burned like this before.
